Clean Chat - The Beauty Business Behind CBD, with Janet Schriever of Crave Skincare

The Clean Hub Episode 12: The Beauty Business Behind CBD, with Janet Schriever of Crave Skincare

CBD oil in beauty products is a hot topic right now in the US. Why? Because studies have shown that CBD oil is awesome for your skin, and rivals some of the best clean beauty or natural beauty ingredients.  CBD works as an antioxidant as well as helps with skin cell turnover and inflammation. Yes, there is an all-natural ingredient that does all of that. I’m in. Please tell me where I can buy this fountain of youth ingredient.

However at first, like many people, questions begin to swirl in my head. Is it legal? Can I just put any CBD oil in beauty products and sell it? Will it get me high?  What documents do I need to give to retailers to work with them? To clear up the confusion we had Janet Schriever, CEO and founder of Crave Skincare on the Clean Chat podcast. Janet breaks down what CBD is, as well as the business behind using CBD in your beauty products.

First off, Janet admits that there is quite a lot of confusion in the industry due to lack of knowledge or misinformation on the Internet. Janet says, first off know that “CBD does not get you high.” CBD or cannabidiol is one of the nearly 200 compounds made by the cannabis plant. The problem is that many people confuse CBD with its well-known family member, THC.  Tetrahydrocannabinol (otherwise known as THC) is the primary psychoactive component of marijuana. However, though from the same family, CBD DOES NOT get you high. In fact, according to the World Health Organization, CBD “in its pure state, does not appear to have abuse potential or cause harm.”

For beauty business owners, Janet cautions those that are looking to add CBD to their products, as legislation has recently changed and can make it more difficult to sell in the United States. Janet sources her CBD legally under the 2014 Farm bill from a hemp farm in Kentucky. However, recently the federal court has recently declined to protect CBD as they have lumped all cannabis together and have begun to fine banks that support CBD companies. You can see the headache this can cause for CBD beauty brands as CBD remains in a legal grey area.

Many lawmakers are now lobbying to refine the CBD law to take out this federal grey area – which The Clean Hub is all about. We hope to promote the kick butt uses of CBD in beauty products and how it can transform your skin. To learn more, check out our podcast with Janet Schriever.
